Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can my family attend training classes or should it be one handler only?

A: Yes we encourage the family to attend classes whenever possible. That way everyone in the family is consistent with the dog's training and your dog will learn to work for and listen to all members of the family.

Q. My dog isn't feeling well should we attend class?

A: If your dog is not feeling well (loose stool, vomiting, lethargic, etc.) it is best to keep your dog at home in case he or she is contagious. We do encourage you to attend the class without your dog so that you can still learn what is being taught, and can practise these skills at home when your dog is feeling better. Just be sure to wear clean clothes and wash your hands before attending class so as not to pass on any germs.

Q. My bitch is in season, can she attend class?

A: Bitches in season are welcome to attend all classes. We ask that she wears dog pants while in class to prevent dripping on the floor and undue distractions to the other dogs in class.

Q. Can we watch a class before registering in a program?

A: Yes! We always welcome people to come out and watch a class before registering in a program. You can check our online google calendar for the classes running each week. We ask that you leave your dog at home when viewing a class.

Q. What should we bring to class?

A: You will need a leash (4-6ft leash, no flexi leashes please), a collar, harness or gentle leader for pet manners classes. A harness or collar for the dog sport classes. Choke chains and prong collars are not allowed in any of the classes. You will need lots of small, soft treats and a toy if your dog enjoys playing with toys. Poop bags, and water for your dog are also a good idea to bring to class. Please bring clean indoor shoes for use in the facility.

Q. What are your cancellation/refund policies?

A: All Classes are non refundable and non transferable up to three days before your class starts and once it is in session. Refunds before the 72 hour cut off are subject to a $15 fee for payments completed via Paypal. You are encouraged to come out and watch a class before registering in a program.

Drop in's are non refundable if cancelled the day of the booking.

Q. If we have to miss a class, is there a make up class available?

A: Make up classes are not available as our classes often fill and we do not have the class space to accommodate extra dogs in classes.  If you need to miss a class speak with your instructor or send a message to our front reception and we will let you know what you have missed and what you can practise for next class.  Consulting handouts will also help you prepare for the missed class.

Q: How do I stay updated on upcoming classes and seminars?

A: Fill out the form at the bottom of the page to be added to our mailing list.  Emails are sent out when new classes, events, workshops, etc are added to our calendar.  You can also stay current by joining our Facebook page and Instagram page.

Q: My dog barks and lunges at other dogs when on leash. Can my dog attend a group class?

A: If your dog will settle quickly then you are probably fine to attend a group obedience class.  If your dog barks continuously, barks/lunges aggressively, or is difficult for you to control then your dog is not appropriate for a group class at this time.  We suggest a few private lessons to focus on the leash reactivity/barking before attending a group class.  Private lessons can be requested by filling out the form at www.hyperhounds.ca/private-lessons
